Kings Canyon to Yosemite

We left our delightful little cabin yesterday morning after another hearty continental beaky. Such fun. We made our way towards Fresno en-route to Yosemite NP.

The kids were dying for some rampant commercialism. Of the 7 exits to Fresno, I pulled off the Interstate about 6 exits too early. The upside of this was a self guided tour of the entire city in search of some shopping. We eventually settled on "Ross - Dress for less."

I think everyone bought something. Some bought multiples. Many bargains were had. By the end of this spree, everyone was feeling hungry. In my pursuit for an appropriate eatery, I ended up somehow getting back on the freeway. No food for miles. We ended up in a funny little hick town called Coarsegold. It had a "Ye Old" feel with a bit of Moe thrown in. Sadly, we settled for Subway - mainly because it was the first place we found with a dunny. (Did I mention that so far we've completely blocked 6 dunnies?) I've become an expert unblocker.

Before leaving Coarsegold, the kids got a milkshake. In hindsight, not the best decision before a windy road. Gracie spewed hers everywhere. Fortunately not in the car.

Arrived at our accomodation by around 4.00 pm. Settled in and then hit the pool and spa. Scratch tea and then a movie. Our hotel is just outside the Park itself.

Today has been an absolute highlight. Yosemite NP has totally exceeded my expectations. It's unbelievable and totally inspiring. It's so grand and beautiful that's it's almost too big to take in. We set out for Glacier point via a number of stops. From this posi you can see around 25% of the whole park. Perfect view of Half Dome from here and the valley floor.

We had a walk around and just sucked in the views and the atmosphere. It was a beautiful day and there were plenty of people out and about. Loads of big RV's.

The photos don't really do it justice. I could have sat and looked at the view all day. After a good poke around, we made our way down to the Yosemite Village which is on the valley floor. It's kind of Halls Gap on steroids. By and large it consisted of old people on Harleys, RV's in all shapes and sizes and Baby Boomers driving Mustangs & Camaros.

Each place we go the kids get a souvenir penny

These three discovered the games room

We finished the day with tea out at the River Restaurant. This was a birthday treat for Lara (her birthday was in April).
Tea was yummy & everyone found something they liked.

After tea I had a swim and a spa with Charlie, William & Gracie. Now watching episodes of American Pickers. Off to SF tomorrow.
